Fitting
Your Dowel Grip:
It is important to purchase the correct size Hand Guard.
To determine the size use our size chart. Gymnastic Planet
sizing is different from guard to guard. Please make
sure you are ordering the correct size for your Guard.
The girl’s uneven bar guard and men’s ring
guard should be worn only to the first knuckle. The men’s
High bar guard is worn between the first and second knuckle.
The finger holes may be too small for many gymnasts but
can be stretched slightly. Never cut the holes to make
them larger.
Keep in mind that the heavier the gymnasts and the higher
the skill level, the more the guard will stretch. Order
the size closest to your measurement. If your measurement
falls exactly between sizes, order the smaller size.
Breaking in your Hand Guards:
It is important to break in your guards by: 1) Manually
roll the leather back and forth until pliable; 2) doing
basic swing work until you feel it is stretched and formed
to give you maximum holding power. DO NOT do full routines
or difficult skills until your grips have been completely
broken in.
Safety Tips:
When hanging on the apparatus, visually
inspect the grip to see if leather has stretched beyond
its safe usage. This can be determined by visually checking
the space between the top of the grip and base of the
grip when it is wrapped over the High Bar. Have your
coach check them monthly to prevent injury.
How to stretch finger holes:
If the finger holes are too small, roll up a piece of
sandpaper and sand the holes towards the body of the
Guards until you reach the desired size. At no time should
the finger holes be cut with a knife, to enlarge holes.
NEVER WEAR Hand Guards that are too long! TO DO SO, MAY
CAUSE GRIP LOCK AND RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY!
